Description
A classic chocolate cake with cherries and whipped cream.
Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 jar (24 oz) Morello cherries
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- Chocolate shavings for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients. Mix until smooth.
- Stir in boiling water until well combined.
- Pour batter evenly into prepared pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let cakes cool for 10 minutes, then remove from pans.
- Once cooled, slice each cake in half horizontally.
- Place one layer on a serving platter. Spread whipped cream and cherries on top.
- Add another layer and repeat until all layers are stacked.
- Frost the top and sides with remaining whipped cream and garnish with chocolate shavings.
Notes
- Use fresh cherries for better flavor.
- Chill the heavy cream for easier whipping.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator.
