Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, cream together the butter and powdered sugar.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing well.
  4. Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until combined.
  5. Divide the dough in half. To one half, add peppermint extract and red food coloring.
  6. Roll small pieces of each dough into ropes and twist them together.
  7. Shape the twisted dough into a candy cane form and place on a baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until lightly golden.
  9. Sprinkle with crushed peppermint candies while warm.
